What is CBD ?

from CBDRx
FAQs:

What are cannabinoids?  There are over 480 natural components found within the Cannabis sativa plant, of which 66 have been classified as “cannabinoids;” chemicals unique to the plant. The cannabinoids are separated into subclasses as follows:
Cannabigerols (CBG)
Cannabichromenes (CBC)
Cannabidiols (CBD)
Tetrahydrocannabinols (THC)
Cannabinol (CBN) and cannabinodiol (CBDL)
Other cannabinoids (such as cannabicyclol (CBL), cannabielsoin (CBE), cannabitriol (CBT) and other miscellaneous types)

Is this like hemp seed oil?
Absolutely not. Standard hemp seed oil found in grocery and health food stores is extracted by cold pressing only the seeds of the plant. Although hemp seed oil is a nutritional food and useful for certain ailments, it does not contain hemp CBD oil. Our CBD oil is extracted from the complete, high quality hemp plant by a supercritical CO2 process. It is the high CBD and high cannabinoid content oil extracted from the complete plant that is desirable and proven effective for various therapeutic applications.

What will CBD do for me?
We do not represent that there are presently any clinically proven medical benefits or make any other claims about the benefits of our products, which are currently considered nutritional supplements or food according to FDA guidelines and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. However, with thousands of published studies now showing the safety and usefulness of cannabinoids, they are considered by many to be a health-promoting “super” nutrient with virtually unlimited potential in health promotion and disease prevention.

To find out more about the specific diseases and ailments that studies have shown to be receptive to cannabinoid therapy, please check the Medicinal Hemp Association site at  https://www.the-mha.org.

CBD is one of 123 chemical compounds found in the hemp cannabis plant belonging to the class of molecules called cannabinoids. Of these cannabinoid compounds, CBD and THC are usually present in the highest concentrations. They are therefore the most recognized and studied. Early studies indicate that cannabinoids found in the hemp plant act on the cells' receptors that repress the release of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Research also suggests that cannabinoids typically work together rather than as isolated molecules. This is known as the entourage effect, and it produces medicinal and healing benefits. We use high ratios of CBD/cannabinoids with trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%) in our content equations. The CBD/cannabinoids are carefully extracted for quality and efficacy and is a non-psychoactive, non-addictive, non-NGO, non-toxic compound.

Terpenes
Often overlooked in relation to the more prevalent cannabinoids, terpenes may offer substantial medicinal value as they appear to mediate our body's interactions with cannabinoids, thereby making the cannabinoids more effective. Terpenes are also the main class of aromatic compounds found in hemp, providing flavor and aroma to foods and drinks. They also may play an important role by providing the hemp plant with natural protection from bacteria, fungus, insects and other environmental stresses.

Testing Methods
We (CBDRx) use several methods for testing our different raw materials and extractions at our in-house, state-of-the-art laboratory. We use test results to indicate cannabinoid levels in each extraction, testing the active and inactive forms of the THC and CBD molecules, which activate and convert to THC and CBD given time and/or heat. These numbers reflect the conversion ratios of CBD and THC levels and content by the time of testing. We also test our CBD/cannabinoid extractions utilizing the 92 data point Medicinal Hemp Association's CBD/cannabinoid product criteria for quality assurance and comparisons with other market leading medicinal hemp productions.
